Unfair tips illegal? Is it fair for the boss to decide how much tips I earned?
Hi.
I work at a sushi restaurant. I am an apprentice sushi chef/helper and have been working under my boss for one year. The tips are pooled and the sushi chefs (2 of us, me and my boss) get only tips from people that sit at the sushi bar even though we make sushi for people at regular tables. Then, those tips are cut in half for the waiters,and the other half for me and my boss. Then, my boss will take that, and decide how much ive earned for the day. He always says tips are cut in half, but he takes a larger portion usually. About 2/3 to 1/3. I was just told today by a friend that its illegal for bosses to handle tips. Is this true? Does him making sushi counteract this? Is it fair for the boss to decide how much tips I earned for that day? |
