Fired then he owes?

My husband was fired from his full time job, which provided sick leave and vacation time paid. He received a letter from the company two weeks after he was let go telling him that the company "re-worked" his vacation hours and that they figured out he now OWES them $1,160.00 in vacation pay that they paid out (88 hours worth) and now want back? His normal paycheck was only about $350.00 per week so that is an awful lot of money for us. Is this legal? They have erased his company file online so he cannot go back and see what was done, however he said his vacation and personal time hours were "banked" and that he definitely did NOT use mopre than he was given. What can we do? Help please.

Well the only thing I can say off hand, is that if they expect to be paid for whatever reason they are claiming, they have to show proof of the financial obligation. If they cannot show documentation to support their "recalculation" then I would put it into the hands of the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour.
