My last increase was October 2007. I was on a 18 month cycle. Late 2007 it was announced that the company had been sold and a new cycle was introduced. Starting in 2008 all employees were to get their review at the same time in April. My position is Supervisor therefore I am responsible for my department's review. I was told by my Manager that this year, 2008, Budget was lower than expected and he did not know how he was going to compensate the deserving associates. Then a few days later he imformed me that he had found a solution and how relieved and proud of himself that he thought of this. We started everyones review in April of 2008 like we were suppose to. My responsibility is to review my department and communicate to my Manager, by rating, who should get a larger %. Then the Manager allots the increases. When my turn came about my Manager informs me that since I had received a increase in October of 2007 I would have to wait until 2009 for my increase. His solution was that anyone after June had to wait until the next year. I was also told that I would be extra compansated in 2009. A few weeks ago an email from the CEO stated that a company wide wage freeze was in effect because of our economy. Don't get me wrong I am grateful that I have a job but I also know that all the sacrifices, ie pay cuts, are being made at the lower levels. Is that legal? Is there no laws that protects the workers? This week at the Gaylord hotel a huge sales meeting went on all week. The company flew in sales people accross the world. They payed for everyones room at the Gaylord. The lowest price for a romm is $300 a night! I attanded a meeting for a few hours and was introduced to the same CEO who a few weeks ealier stated in his email that we were going to have layoff due to the failing economy? Where are the prioraties? I have no doubt that this is immoral but is it illegal?
