At my company, my boss tells me that all management is to work 10 hr days (I am a salaried worker-exempt)-however when I receive a paycheck (every 2 weeks) my paycheck reads paid for 40 hours. Why are we not compensated for the additional ten hours? When it clearly states rate of pay and hours worked (40 hours) Also during the holidays we were required to work six day weeks and also were never compensated. All the while the paycheck read 40 hrs. I live in North Carolina and my company is quite large. This just feels wrong-and if this illegal, this might affect a lot of people.

It could just be the company's policy to have the listed hours reflect 40 hours/80 hours based on the pay frequency. When I process my company's payroll, the salary people always receive "80 regular hours" even if they may have worked 85-90 hours.
The meaning of "exempt" is that the position this person is working is exempt from overtime. Your only option would be to read through the regulations to see if your position does indeed meet the qualifications for Salary. Typically company's offer a higher salary because they know a certain amount of extra hours will be worked. Some of the holiday questions should be readily answered by your Employee Handbook. |
