Exclamation Guarantor for apartment lease

I have a 21 year old college student. She wanted to move into an apartment with 2 friends. The total rent on the apartment is $800 per month. She was required to show that she and/or her legal guardian would be able to pay 3x that much in order to be albe to secure the lease. She needed her parents to co-sign, but their credit score was not high enough. Is it the law that only parents can guarantee a lease for a 21 year old in Alabama? Her grandmother is willing and has excellent credit, but the apartment company says that they have to have the legal guardian as guarantor. I though a 21 year old did not need a legal guardian. If her grandmother is willing to guarantee the lease, shouldn't that be good enough.

i didnt know that a 21 yr old needed a parent/guradian for a lease what if they dont have either one?....i am guessing each state is different because i had my own place at age 20 and was fine and i didnt really have any credit i had built a lil bit i guess with a cell phone but that was it...one would think if someone is willing to do so they could....and i also thought that most places didnt accept your application if you had bad credit....i suppose it depends on the company leaseing....
