My mother passed away last April. She left me her home, and also a huge
debt. My name is not on the mortgage. I have continued to make payments up until this point. My name is on the quit claim deed, and I did register that. I would prefer not to be responsible for the home. I need to know if I am Financially responsible for the home? Can I walk away from the home without having to worry about the banks coming after me for money? Or do I need to stay and try to sell the home. |

If you did not sign any assumption of the mortgage (as is normally required by lenders in these situations) you normally are not liable.
