I live in Michigan and own a home on three lots. The home rests on a lot that the county road commission owned over 20 years ago and it was labeled as another road for drainage from a road behind my house to the front road. When I bought the home, I recieved an abandonment letter from the county and the previous owners stating that the land was abandoned.
Problem: some elderly neighbors are telling me that is still a road and I must leave it clear for them to park vehicles, walk through the yard to lake, etc... (we live on lake with limited parking.) I have people wandering through it all the time which drives us nuts as it hasn't ever been used as a road and my house sits on it. One nice neighbor told me I need to have it vacated as well which requires an attorney??? My question is if it is abandoned by the county, my house sits on over half of it to begin with, do I need to do anything else legally? I was told the land was divided in half between me and my neighbor on the other side once it was abandoned, is that true? It is stated on my deed as "that portion of King Fischer drive thereto the west of lot 26" which is one of my other lots? Any advice or information would be great |

That does not mean you own it automatically; have a title search done and at some point you could have a court rule that it is yours. And then have a deed made to reflect that.
