Default Lawsuit Lien Against Jointly Owned Home

If a credit card company puts a lien on the equity that one person has in a jointly owned home, what does that constitute? Does the company who is suing that person now own his equity in the house? How does a lien affect the other owners who are not being sued? If the person being sued makes a good-faith payment to the company, does that have any effect on the lien?
