A/C not working

I have a question. The A/C in my apt is not working. I went outside to look and see what happened to it and saw that the landscaper accidentally cut the wires to the outside unit. I went to put in a request for maintenance repair and the guy came and respliced the wires and it still did not work. Apparently something was burned out when the wires were cut. During this time I put in a window unit in my upstairs bedroom and the apt manager told me that I had to take it down because it might fall on someone. mind yo, I live in Florida and it is 90 plus degrees outside and plus the unit will not fall because I have it secured with the wing extensions and the window itself fits right into this little area on top of the unit. She told me that if I do not take it down that the maintenance man will do it for me and they will take it. What the heck does she expect me to do, sweat in here? I need to be able to sleep comfortably! Please help on this.
