Confused Wouldn't selling the land be smart?

I previously posted concerning my mother in law leaving her home to all four of her children. At this point, nothing has been decided yet, and I'm getting anxious just waiting to find out what is going to happen. We do not want to move out of the house, we are very happy here...but we have been told we may have to move. Now, there is another twist involved. Across the road from the house is 17 acres of land, that already has a seperate deed, which the youngest brother, who is executor, has seriously considered selling. We were told that if they could sell the land, then they could settle the estate, pay the attorney, reimburse themselves for bills they paid for his mother when she was sick , and pay back his wifes grandmother, who loaned them $1000.00 to help make a mortgage payment, then, they would have to get the house and four acres it sits on appraised, and then the difference between what it gets appraised for and the $127,000.00 that is still owed would have to be paid, and the rest would be split between the 3 other kids, and we could assume the mortgage and keep the house. Sounded great to us...Now, we were told it can't happen that way, because whatever is left over after settling the estate and reimbursing everyone would have to go to the mortgage company, and we would be getting the house, and the other 3 kids would get nothing. So we would be getting $80,000.00, is the way it was put, and everyone else gets zilch...regardless of the fact that we have a $1127.00 a month mortgage that we would have to keep paying, and also the fact that the house is definately liveable, but does need work, such as a new roof, it leaks, and it isn't insulated, the outside yard is a disaster, there are old appliances and such around that need to be gotten rid of, all of which would be left up to us. They have gotten offers on the land, the highest offer right now for the land alone was $80,000.00, and he would pay any other fees as well, and they also had an offer of $140,000.00 for the house and all the land. If they are concerned about not getting anything, can't they deal with the man who offered the $80,000.00, and see if he will agree to pay the $65,000.00 they originally said they would have to get for the land in order for us to keep the house, and just agree to quietly give the $15,000.00 difference to them in cash to be split between the three of them. I just don't know what they are waiting for, and with the weather getting nicer everyday, I just want them to do something already, so that if we can stay, we can start cleaning up. I don't want to do it for someone else. Any opinion on this is welcome, and appreciated. Thankyou!

Why can you not refinance the house, split the equity if any, and take the house and payments going forward?
