What is the best advice when a non-profit is going to sell its property? The plan is to sell it and the profit go into the bank account (general budget). The idea was to keep the profit and look to down size in amount of property.
Does this money have to be turned back into land or could it be used to further the program of this non-profit (without property)? Seeing that this non-profit is in its infant state could a back-salary be taken from its proceeds on the sale of the land? (no salary has been taken in last three years due to shortage of funds and interest payments on the land) thanks |

You are creating a dicey situation for the executive directors, left holding the bag if the IRS comes knocking. If it were me (exec. dir.) I would have it put in a 7 year CD, or locked down in a trust. But no way would you get to spend a dime.

You can certainly sell and use the proceeds for your stated purposes.
Nothing odd here. But back salaries should only be approved with legal counsel involved. |
