Confused maintance and upkeep fued

aunt has a legal life estate on property until her death. lawyer did not put in writing who has maintance upkeep on property. according to our township we have to mow her grass even though the life estate list what portion of property is listed as for their use. in the case of an act of god in relationship to trees falling on her section of property or hitting her residence, who is responsible for damages and or clean-up? until husbands death which was at least 20 years after life estate was granted they did all upkeep and maintance.

You may need to have a court clarify but the occupant of the life estate normally has to keep it up while there--if that is what you asking.
