Got denide for citizenship, not sure if I got cheated

In 2003 my wife joined the Army. I got my green card in 1999. My wife got orders to be station in Germany and we both got shipped to Germany and stay there on the Army base, from December 2003 till March 2007, I worked at AAFES. During last deployment my wife found a guy she felt in love and we got separated. It was time to came back to USA, I got shipped back to USA by the Army, with orders and living separately now from my wife, with pending divorce. I was looking to get Federal job and did apply for my citizenship when I came back, paid about 500$ fee for application. When i got to the interview and told there that I was oversea on the Army base and stay there for all time they denied my application, for reason that I was not physically present in USA, longer then 1 year. Something sounds no right to me, am I wrong? My wife get out from the Army and we both return here, but living separately. Pleas give any advise. Thanks

You could try to appeal that, arguing the base was US property and that you were required to go there.

You would likely need immigration counsel to assist.
