Angry Re: Birth Abroad US Citizenship

I am also having some problems,, I was born in Madrid, Spain while my dad was stationed at Tarrajon Air Force base, I am a US citizen and I lost my birth certificate a few years ago, so I am trying to get a copy, I wrote to the United States Dept of State in Washington, expecting them to be able to send me a copy, but who would have thought they would write me back saying they have no record!?? I want to know where all these military records of births abroad end up if they can't find anybody?
Just wanting to vent ,,, since I don't know where else to look now.

Your congressman can help you get that if all else fails.

I was in a situation to what many of you describe.

I was born in 1975 in Seoul, South Korea while my biological father was in the military. I was brought to the United States when I was six month old. To add fuel to the "fire" I was put up for adoption when I was 18 months old. When I was adopted, my name was changed. Adoption files were sealed. I wanted to travel to Spain in 1993 and it took an act of Congress to make it possible. I was trying to get my passport three months before my trip, only to discover I did not have the right documents. All I had was a delayed certificate of birth that was issued after I was adopted with my adoptive parents name on it.

We had to get our state politicians involved. My mom got the U.S. Senator involved from our state and he helped push it through the beauracratic process "red tape". I know have my Certificate of Birth Abroad of a U.S Citizen, as well as two other goverment issued birth certificates signed by then Secretary of State, Warren Christopher. Needless to say I now guard them with my life, because the likelihood that I could replace them if lost, damaged or destroyed may take an act of God!!!

I went through a similar process in when I was twelve when it was mandated that everyone had a social security #.

I am going thru the same horrible process and I already have a trip paid for that is schelduled a month from now. After a week of trying to call the Office of Vital Recordsand finally getting thru, I was told my copy of my FS240 was waiting manager approval. WHAT!!!!??? I was born in Germany in 1959 and have lived in the US since I was 1 yr. old. I have paid taxes and worked since I was 16. My Dad was in the milatary over 30 yrs and my Mom is an American citizen. Why am I having such difficulty getting this and you can get illegal stuff done and passed off so easily in this country? Thanks for the info others have written, it will be put to good use tomorrow.
