I am trying to help a dear friend of mine become a citizen.
He was born in Mexico and is 21 years old. He has lived here since he was 2 years old. He has gone through all of his schooling here and he has worked here legally up until the recent laws where social security numbers have been revoked. And having said that he has also been paying taxes on his income as well. He is here on a b1 - b2 visa that expires in 2012. He has his visa card and a Mexican passport. He however does not have is I-94 (or whatever number the government calls the form that says when you came into the country) His mother had that document. His mother was murdered a year and a half ago and the man who murdered her (my friends stepfather) destroyed every document she had in her safe including the I-94. We have contacted a few lawyers to hire and help us and the only one that has gotten back to us did not even attempt to sound helpful. He basically said to marry a citizen. Please give us some hope |

I am so sorry for your friend. I would think, dont know for sure, but if his mother had an legal document from immigration they probably still have a copy of it. Gov. agencys never through paper work away. At least that is my experience. So think about it and try to find out if they can find out somehing under his mother's name. it would make sence. This is not leagal advice. But built on my experience when I moved here from europe back in 1994. All the luck to you and your friend. Last edited by tanja53 : 05-01-2008 at 03:46 PM. |

My wife got her green card after 7 yrs and had to supply her photo and prints 5 times .at last interview she paid hundreds of dollars for her citizenship interview ,at that time she was told it would take 1 yr to 18 months.
Having had a address change I called INS 800 number in DC and informed them of new address ,a week later I called and found out the new address was not entered. I then called twice a week to the 800 number for 52 wks and still no correct address was noted by INS after 18 months of calling I was told that the invitation for citizen ship ,was mailed 3 months after last interview and again 2 months later. Now last info from INS was we had to start all over and pay some wear around $600.00 for another interview. Is there any advocates who can help???? I am on SS and now have to pay to renew her green card. Also My step daughter had applyed for a visa in moscow russia to come visit The questions asked her were how my wife and I met ,how did her mother come to the US (K visa) and how long were we married (visa Denied) the fact that she owns her own apartment and summer home ,plus a husband and 2 yr old son were not asked which are the question that set the critera to show she would come back to russia. I fliped out and called embassey in moscow and spoke to the person who did the interview.twice I called moscow to obtain his name and federal ID number so I could file a complaint But was refused that info I have followed every rule thay wanted only to be swindled by INS The only answer I got from moscow was she can appeal ,as of now I have never seen my grand son I cant hold him on my knee or hug him and never will Thanks to the US government |

You may want to write this all up as you have done here and send it back to them to review.
They are not supposed to have that effect their decision but it does sometimes work. Don't give up. Stay persistent but polite. Unfortunately they hold the cards in the Embassy. |

The new administration this fall may attempt to legalize people in that situation again.
I would wait for that if you don't want to have lawyers review all of this now. |
