Default Ex-NY state senator pleads guilty to fraud (AP)
AP - A former New York state senator has pleaded guilty to fraud charges, admitting that he used charity groups to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Efrain Gonzalez entered the plea Friday in Manhattan federal court. He was a high-ranking Bronx Democrat when he was charged in the summer of 2006.

Gonzalez admitted that he siphoned the money away from charity groups that received state grants from $200 million the New York Legislature donates annually to certain groups.

Prosecutors estimated that he faces between seven and nine years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 7.
