My sister recently split from her live-in boyfriend, with whom she has a 2 year old child.
She subsequently discovered that this boyfriend/father had fraudulently obtained a credit card in HER name and racked up a large debt, which he is not able / willing to pay. Is this considered identity theft, even though they are technically 'family'? (Although they are not married). I'd love some advice as to what her options are at this point, thanks! |

I had a similar situation and a friend told me that I should get protected by an identity theft protection company. I did a great deal of research and found a company that is run by professionals with law enforcement experience --
I now sleep peacefully knowing that nobody can get my identity. Last edited by wld_team : Aug 13th, 2008 at 10:13 PM. |

That's a great idea, however in this case it's obviously a bit too late. I'm wondering what recourse she may have in this POST theft situation?
Filing a police report is possible, but obviously throwing the father of your child in jail isn't necessarily the best option, if there ARE any other options. |

I looked up your ShieldSafe and it along with all the others offers the same protection unless i'm missing something. Shieldsafe is only 49 dollars though. Am I missing something, it looks comparable to the rest.

99 percent of all the services Identity theft protection companies issue are the same. The main service from all these companies is to place a check with the 3 credit bureaus. And yes, including Shieldsafe, these companies are identical in what they do to combat identity theft. 49.95 for the year is a great price and it should be mentioned that some of these companies are charging waaaaaay too much, like Lifelock and TrustedID. Shieldsafe apparently just reduced their price recently though, and it will be very interesting to see how the other companies will compete with this.
