Confused Naturalization Certificate

Hi,

My partner was adopted from outside the USA and has been estranged from his adoptive parents for a number of years.

His adoptive parents have the original of his Naturalization Certificate and he requires it to get a passport. The current wait time for a replacement is ridiculous and we don't want to wait that long.

We have sent numerous emails to his mother and sister (which I know they received) but they have ignored us.

My question: Does my partners Naturalization Certificate legally belong to him and is there a legal way I can force his adoptive parents to hand it over?

Please bear in mind his adoptive father was extremely abusive and my parnter would not cope with verbal/physical contact, so if it could be done without that it would be great!

Thanking you for your time,

Ange.

A court can force them to turn it over or could order that a new document be issued for him.

You may need to take legal action, or at least threaten to do so.

Default Re: Naturalization Certificate

My wife went through the formal naturalization ceremony this week. Her legal last name as changed on our marriage certificate is my last name. While filling out the form to go in to the naturalization ceremony she mistakenly used her maiden name on the form, which resulted in her maiden name being on the naturalization certificate. The naturalization certificate does not have her legal last name, it has her maiden name on it. Is there any reason whatsoever to have this naturalization certificate changed?
