Default seeking cause of death

My ex-girlfriend committed suicide approx 2 months ago. We broke up about a year ago, she moved to another state, and soon thereafter killed herself. At least that's what I believe happened. I found out about her death by accident because her family never even bothered to inform me. When I called her mother her major concern seemed to be how I had learned of my ex-girlfriend's death, and she ended the conversation before I could learn anything. The next day a male friend of hers called me, cursed at me, threatened me, and hysterically screamed at me not to inquire about my ex-girlfriend's death. I've spoken to my ex-girlfriend's brother repeatedly, and he too refuses to give any information. The claim is that the police are conducting an investigation, and that they haven't finished yet, and won't share any information with the family. But as far as I know there's no indication that my ex-girlfriend was murdered, so what could the police still be investigating after 2 months? And whatever information the family does have they aren't sharing. I can't get even the most basic information from her brother, such as the exact date of her death, or the condition of her body which was supposedly found by her mother. I've repeatedly called the police, and the coroner's office, but they refuse to provide any info because I wasn't married to her and am not a family member. Her body was cremated approx 2 weeks after her death, and the obituary announcing her funeral services provided no information whatsoever as to the cause of death.

Is there any legal recourse open to me? Is there a way for me to obtain a copy of her death certificate? Or copies of police reports?
