Ask A Lawyer:
From: don (donaldbessler@msn.com, ) Area of law: (Not sure which area) Country: United States of America State: Colorado I am a manager in a municipal organization. If during a public meeting a member of the public knowingly makes false accusations against one on my staff persons along the lines of legal misconduct; is this libel or slander? An example might be; I believe this staff person \"is in bed with this business person\" thanks |

If they say anything factually untrue and it damages you, you indeed can sue for slander, defamation, interference with business relations etc. -- or at least threaten to do so and give a warning.
