I'm not sure which forum this would fall under, but my Special Ed niece was terribly verbally abused in front of the whole class. Her mother would like to sue but doesn't know exactly what to do first. I think the first thing she needs is a lawyer. She say's she can't afford one, but don't lawyers usually take their pay from the awards? She lives in Los Angeles in the LAUSD school district. Should she contact Legal Aid? Thanks.

yes personally if i were your sister i would search for legal aid for your neice its defamation of character and if any of her classmates can prove in your favor of course that the teacher said such things to her and it may have changed the childrens opinion on your neice you have in my opinion a good case .. however this also depends on the place that you live. me personally am in canada and can very easily suggest to do this if its not to late already.
