I have a question about my rights as a civil servant. I work for the State of
Michigan. I plead no contest to a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident. (Long story there too.) But as a result, my work disciplined me. I was offered a "settlement" of a written reprimand and one of the conditions was I had to waive all my rights legally, civilly on this matter. I refused to sign the "settlement" because I would not give up any of my personal and civil rights. I told them that I would agree to the written reprimand but I would not give up any of my rights. I was then told if I did not sign the settlement, I would receive a more severe discipline. I again said I would sign the settlement as long as the contingency of giving up my rights was removed. My warden inform me that I was refusing the settlement and he was recommending a suspension. Are my Civil Rights being violated? My boss, the Warden of my correctional facility, is recommending a more severe penalty just because I would not give up my civil and legal rights. Can this be done? |

i doubt it.
you can agree to a compromise, or refuse and argue your case in court or with the labor board etc. |
