Receipt of purchase: Isn't her physical degree another proof of receipt of payment?

My girlfriend graduated from college in May of 07. She asked me to make the final payment for her account so she could receive her degree. Without the payment she would not walk with her degree. I paid the amount owed and she received her degree when she walked. 3months later she was hit with a bill for the amount i paid. I lost or misplaced the receipt now. My question is, After receiving her degree which couldn't have been obtained without a zero balance on her account, isn't her physical degree another proof of receipt of payment?

No that does not suffice. Get your bank records etc. Be truthful as any lie in this area could be a crime.

I took over 3500 out that day her payment was 4 1500. I have my bank statement. How would my bank statement help? Why wouldn't the degree be sufficient enough as a receipt seeing that it couldn't be obtained without payment in full? Also she transfered some transcripts after that to another school, which also couldn't have been done without a zero balance on her account. That office also had theft problems. We aren't paying the money again whats our next step. They aren't even asking us to pay again yet.
