Sirs; recently a store manager confronted me at my car accusing me of leaving his store with two unpurchased items. After fumbling through my wallet, I produced the receipt that showed my paying for them. This experience left me awfully shaken and when I phoned the store to obtain the managers name, he provided it and explained that one of the cashiers who did not see me pay for the items with another cashier reported me. On his way out the door to confront me, he added, the cashiers discussed the matter and the one I paid said, yes, indeed, I had paid. He said he later criticized her for not coming to my defense on the parking lot.
The experience has still left me shaken and, needless to say, I never intend to return to that store (which I patronized 4-5 times/week, on agerage). Was the store manager's action to confront me--without any proof of his allegation--legal? I have no criminal record, have never even received a speeding or parking ticket, etc., etc. Thanks. |

Not really. He can ask and you can decide how to reply. It was not personal to you we would have to assume.
