Default anything else i can do?

sept 06 at around 1am my girlfriend and i woke up in our home (rented) to a gunshot and glass shattering. we heard someone jump in a car and drive off... this is a very small town and people talk so the word spread fast. come to find out it was one of my old roommates and 2 guys id bumped heads with back in high school. they knew that it was my bedroom and knew we would be in there at that time of the night. the passenger and the driver fessed up and pointed the finger to the 3rd man who was the shooter. the 2 got off with nothing and the shooter was charged with many things buy only had to pay the homeowner a small restitution fine and was convicted of a minor misdemeanor. we (my girlfriend and i), are having a hard time sleeping at night, we wont go near or walk passed a window at night (as best we can), and at every unexplainable noise heard in the night we nearly have panick attacks (we live in the country with no neighbors surrounded by apple orchards and forests). is there anything else i can do to make the message clear to these three people that what they did is wrong, and possibly even get some help to gain my life back???
