I live in Kansas and I sold my car to my boyfriend. Before he could get insurance and registration he let a "friend" borrow the car to go to work in our home town. Instead the "friend" took the car out of town and wrecked it. He left the scene and cannot be found. When the police came and told me about the car I was told that nothing could be done until the driver was found. He has yet to be found. In the meantime, I have been cited with no insurance and failure to report an accident. Will I be the one responsible? If so, what kind of punishment am I looking at?

You can argue that once you sold the car you no longer has any responsibility.
You would have to prove the sale and transfer. |
