I am a homeowner who is building a new house-i needed some help so a man I met who needed work offered to help-I was paying him $6.00 per hour to help me build a patio-I do not own a business or have any people working for me-this was just him helping me & me paying him cash. I have a contractors license but only used it to do minor work on a rental I had several years ago.Well I had to stop having him help me because his work was so bad. And now 2 weeks later he calls me and said he hurt his elbow and has a doctor bill for $1200.00 he says I owe becaue he hurt his elbow helping me. He never the whole time he was helping me which was about 3 months indicated that he was hurt or there was a problem. I think he is trying to be vengeful for letting him go. I am retired. Any advice on how to handle this and what is my liability in the matter. He claims he has a lawyer but won't give me his name-he also said if I did not pay it he would go to the prosecuter office and put a lien on my house. I want to do the right thing but I think this guy hurt his elbow else where and is trying to take advantage of me. thank-you.

You are not responsible for that and no prosecutor is or will be involved--and we seriously doubt he has a lawyer.
let him go to small claims if thinks he as a case based on some agreement |
