Default My stepfather is in the process of filing a motion

in the Commonwealth of Virginia, to take away the money that my cousin and I were left by my mother, who passed away April 10 in Northampton County, Virginia.
What is the name of the motion?
The money left to us was not part of my mom's will. She left my cousin a money-market account and the two CDs that I received were payable-on-death and listed in her name and my name only.
Can my stepfather get these monies away from us, based on something like a "surviving spouse" civil claim? I forget the exact time my lawyer used.
He delivered this bombshell yesterday, just before 5 PM, and then did not call me back to explain what it meant in detail or if it were possible for my stepfather to do this, rather succeed in doing this.
Also, when my attorney asked me exactly how much my mom left me, I felt very uncomfortable. He wanted to know if it was in the three-figure range. I declined to answer. Why would he want to know that? It's no one's business, certainly not my stepfather's or his attorney's, but I keep asking myself. "why would my attorney ask me that unless he planned to divulge that information to my stepfather?"

He is normally not going to get those CD amounts etc. But why do you have that concern about discussing this with your own lawyer? Should you consider hiring another? That is not a good sign--at all.
