Business Meeting Hidden Recording -- Canada Law
In Ontario Canada I understand that in certain cases it's legal to record a conversation, such as over the phone or in a non-business metting/conversation where at least one person consents. However is it legal for one person in attendance at a business meeting to record the meeting without any of the other participants knowing?

I wish to inform you that in individual cases consent of one person is required. In case of business meeting consent of persons however businesses are required to notify the other parties that the conversation is being recorded.

How does this apply to a business meeting where all participants are part of the same company? Is it legal to record the meeting without the participants being made aware, or consenting?

No, its not. You must inform the attendees that the meeting is being recorded or you cannot record at all.

Generally for recording /video taping of any conversations need the consent of the person. As you sated exceptions are there (investigating agencies, law enforcement agencies, Courts etc have authority to tape/record the conversations). It seems that in the case of business meetings or even non business meetings the consent of the members participating should be obtained. Otherwise such recordings can be challenged/questioned by the persons attending the same. In such cases the person/organizations which recorded such conversations in a meeting will be answerable, when it is questioned.

Hello,
I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I noticed that one of our colleague brings mobile to the meeting. I suspect, she records the in-person meetings using mobile. Is it legal in Canada with out multi-party consent? ...R |
