Bad checks: I have to go to court for 2 of them

I had written some checks back in 2000. Something happened and I had several checks to returned to where I wrote them. Almost 11 years later I am having to go to court for 2 of them. I thought I had all the checks taken care of. I found out 2 weeks ago when I was served with the papers they these 2 were not. The date on the papers are 7/21/2000 and 9/22/200 for the court date. I never recieved anything about these. They have marked through the old dates and put 02/14/2011 for the court date. I was wondering if there was not a limations to how long they have to serve the papers?? Also I was wondering if I could just go to the 2 places and pick the checks up before the court date and maybe not have to pay the court cost?
