O.K here's where your tax dollars are going....after you read this blog/letter---i want everyone who thinks this is bull**** to re-post this everywhere and watch how our own government is allowing this to happen....I'm sure a lot of you who read this wont bother to do anything or re-post or write anyone on this matter....some will say "it's not my problem" or "who cares"----but you should or this can happen to you in the near future....this whole story will start to sound a lot like "NAZI GERMANY LAWS"----frankly -it scares the hell out of me and it should you too.
An elderly woman in Tampa Florida had to go into a nursing home....after she had been there for a couple of months her husband started to notice bruises on her and ask how this could have happened....he was told and accident had happened and was reassured it would not happen again...in no time at all she suffered a black eye followed by severe bedsores.....the husband knew he had to get her out of the nursing home at once....but before he could find another place to take his wife who suffered from severe memory loss she aspirated into her own feeding tube and died because no one on the floor at the Manhattan convalescent home in Tampa that night cared enough to make sure she was o.k.....someone was supposed to be with Mrs. Clara B. Burnette- the whole time her feedings were being administered....she was supposed to have regular flushings before and after her feedings.....the doctor who checked the body and did the pathology said there was no signs of her having regular flushings and would have died soon from food being left in her system.... Clara's husband filed a lawsuit against the nursing home for wrongful death....he was there when she died...."i was visiting as i always do and went to the restroom while the nurse gave my wife her feeding"---when i returned the nurse was gone out of the room and my wife was jerking wildly "it was horrible" he said crying aloud and uncontrollably....i thought they knew what they were doing with her on her last feeding---but i should have not trusted them after the bruises and bedsores and black eye...she was being fed with her feeding tube---"then all of the sudden she started making gurgling sounds and choking"--- "her eyes looked as if they would pop out out of her head"----i called for the nurse and no one came until it was too late..."i should have never brought my wife to this slaughterhouse for the old"---Jack Burnette was Clara's Husband of over forty years and had seen wars and presidents come and go---"been through a lot together he said"---more than a lot of people could ever....Jack was a world war 2 enlistee and made it back from Germany and the war and thought it would never end like this...."they killed her"-"they killed her"---"they killed my beautiful little wife"---they took away my world in the worst way.....those are the dying word's of Jack Burnette....he didn't last long after the nursing home killed his wife---he grieved himself to death in no time---he said "i failed her"......after Jack died the only child of Clara and Jack Burnette continued the case against the PENNSYVANIA GUARANTEE INSURANCE COMPANY.... Mary Keyes is the only child of Clara B. Burnette....Mary's attorney Robert Sharbaugh of st. Petersburg Florida told Mary after eight long years that the insurance company of the nursing home had NOT paid their deductible of 50,000 dollars and had filed for a motion of bankruptcy in P.A which is where the insurance company is based out of.....Mr. Sharbaugh told Mary that because they filed for a motion of bankruptcy that the state may have to step in to take care of the matter in which case they may not have to pay for her mothers death at all.....Mary screamed while i stood there listening to the speaker phone and their conversation ---she couldn't stop crying at what she just heard from her own attorney that her dad had hired to handle the case when he was alive....how could this be legal ?---to let a nursing home's negligence actually let someone die such an awful death and then be legally NOT obligated to pay the family for their loss..... all who witnessed and heard what the attorney said on the speakerphone saw Mary's face and started to cry-some were cursing out loud as other's just wrapped their arms around her to try and reassure her that a mistake had been made and would be fixed by the law sooner or later when things were looked into.... You see Clara and Jacks ashes have not been buried as they wanted and will not until the case is over and done with.....the attorney told Mary that it is perfectly legal for the insurance company not to pay at all...Mr. Sharbaugh the attorney suggested hiring another attorney in PENNSYLVANIA to assist in the case of wrongful death...he said that he himself was not licensed to work out of Florida and that because Mary didn't have any real money to put into the case that they would have to hire another lawyer on a contingency basis to handle things in P.A.....he also told Mary that finding another attorney who will work on a contingency basis is going to be hard and it may be impossible to find at all which means the case may just drop out of the picture for good....it was proven in court by doctors and medical staff that Clara had died from someone at the nursing home not doing their job and now no one is going to pay for her death.... Mary is still trying to find someone to help her out legally with the loss of her mom and dad and making the "THE PENNSYLVANIA GURANTEE INSURANCE COMPANY come forth and pay what they rightfully owe for the death of Clara B. Burnette....how in the hell can this be legal---to kill an old woman and make no one come to justice for it----to take some one's life and not have to pay for it.....is this what the U.S.A has come to "Robbing the old and screwing their families"---is this what Jack Burnette fought for over in Germany-----he fought for his country and to make sure that people like Hitler could never do things just like this to our people---well look at us now...is this the way we do things for our elderly...we let nursing homes kill our old and make no one pay for it....this story is about my grandparents and what really happened back in 1999----to this day no one has paid my mother for her loss....and "NO" money isn't the issue here.... It's about whats right and whats wrong....i guess in the future a lot of insurance companies will just file bankruptcy and get off Scott free from any and all obligations that they have for their wrongdoing....they assured my grandfather that his wife/my grandmother would be WELL taken care of....well they took real good care in killing her.....i have contacted everyone i could think of in WASHINGTON D.C to look into this matter...NO ONE HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH MY MOTHER....is this why we vote---so the people in power can let nursing homes kill off our elderly and then stand by and do nothing.....i have contacted news stations so this can go public....no one has been in touch.....i just thought a lot of you fellow Americans should know whats REALLY taking place and to be damn sure you don't think that there is any real justice in our law makers if this is the laws they make now....whats next ?stoning people to death for stealing in the public square----last time i checked this was not an Islamic country under the Quran....my grandfather enlisted to go fight in Germany to make sure that this type of **** never happens to "WE THE PEOPLE" of the UNITED STATES..... I'm going to keep on writing on this matter and so are a lot of others who are tired of this kind of LAW.....i will check to see who re-posts this blog/letter to everyone -everywhere.....just think if this happened to your grandmother or your mother or anyone you love....would you stand by and do nothing...if you would just stand back and let this kind of thing take place--DONT CALL YOURSELF AN AMERICAN---AMERICAN'S don't sit idle while our neighbor suffers---AMERICAN'S rush into burning buildings to try and save those who cant save themselves...AMERICAN'S don't rob our poor and give to the rich...AMERICAN'S don't discriminate on things like AGE- GENDER -RELIGION... AMERICAN'S can't sleep at night knowing our children are fighting someone else's war.....AMERICAN'S pull together when times are hard like we did during 911.....AMERICAN'S don't dance in the streets when innocent people are killed...AMERICAN'S die for what they believe in like "FREEDOM"....if you think this blog/letter is right---PLEASE STAND UP AND BE COUNTED AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE....one woman in heaven will thank you and so will i.....Ronnie Lee Davis Last edited by wld_team : Jun 18th, 2007 at 07:48 PM. |

This is a very sad story, unfortunately there are steps that should have been taken long ago that weren't. The bad part is many people don't know the correct agencies to contact when things like this happen. The best way to get results is to report things while they are going on. When he started seeing bruises on his wife he should have called the police, Adult Protective Services, any news stations possible. I've noticed the only way to change things is by being loud, drawing attention to the situation.

I would agree. Be vigilant and persistent and noisy (if need be) about such issues.

This is also why we have lawyers... So that they can hold people responsible for their actions, especially cruel and negligent actions, which are the case in these situations of Elder Abuse. People can't let these situations rest. You need to be aware of the signs of abuse, and if you suspect abuse, an attorney can help you attain justice and ensure that others do not suffer needlessly.
