Selling a Vehicle: Do I mail the Bill of Sale to the DMV?

I am selling my car and not sure on the DMV laws. I went on the CA DMV website and downloaded their forms. I have the Notice of Transer of ownership and the Bill of Sale. Do I do both? Do I mail the Bill of Sale to the DMV? I own the car so I will sign the Title over to the new owner and they get to keep that, correct? Thanks.

check the bill of sale instructions on this site that come with the various state bill of sale forms--you can review them for free

then I would suggest you call the DMV as well. You sign the bill of sale with the buyer and send the transfer doc to DMV in most states
