Breach of Trust

My exhusband filed late income taxes for last year. We still own a house together that we are trying to sell.He told me that WE owed 7000.00 in taxes. He said that he was going to have to borrow the money to pay them or the IRS was going to come and lock us both up. So,he asked me to sign the house over to him so that he could borrow the money.My credit due to him is terrible.The divorce papers say that I get my half of the house. I know that that will happen. I got a letter in the mail from the IRS stating that I owed taxes of 500.00 I called the CPA and asked about it. My ex filed seperately since we were seperated. Also, he signed my name on the tax return. HE owed 6500.00himself. I only owed the rest. Had I known the truth , I would have paid the 500.00 and not signed that house over to him. So, in other words, he lied about alot of things. I helped him borrow the money and he paid his taxes and not mine. What can I do? Do I have a case?

I would suggest two things. First, notify the IRS of the alleged forgery and request the opening of a criminal investigation. Secondly, seek "innocent spouse protection", which your accountant can assist you in so doing. It would also be most prudent to sit down with a family law attorney (preferably the one who handled your divorce) and go over your situation. Hope things work out appropriately here. AJJ
