Default Possible identity theft?

I've recently discovered someone took my pictures off of a social networking site that was made public and proceeded to make a fake profile with all of their information, just my pictures. Upon further investigation it's not the first time it's happened. Is what they are doing illegal? What can be done about it? Again, they did not take any of my personal information, (name, location, etc) they only claimed that the person in the pictures were themselves.

Please advise, and thanks!

That is clearly illegal--they cannot use your picture in that way.

I called the police and he said someone taking a picture I posted on the internet (like on facebook or myspace) and sending it to people saying they look like that is not illegal. Unless that person used the picture to harm me, slander me, or was used to get information from other people. This girl did none of the above, just wanted to pretend to be more attractive.

I guess a picture I choose to upload on facebook is fair game to the creepies out there.

Yes that is...and frankly sometimes the police are a bit quick to say something is not a crime because they just don't want to deal with what they feel may be minor issues.

But nobody can use your picture or likeness for their own use and benefit without your permission--that is illegal.

I might not have the right background but I still would say that is illegal and is a serious issue. No matter what they do, they still used your identity even if it is just a picture.
