Hi,
I live in a very small rural town in New Mexico which is not incorporated. I am working with a local internet service provider to apply for US Dept. of Agriculture Community Connect grant in order to bring broadband internet connection, which we don't have yet, to our area. In order for our community to qualify for this grant we have to have a community center. This is mandated in the grant rules and regulations. The renting, purchase or/and renovation of the community center can be funded by the grant. But because our town is not incorporated we need an entity to own and operate the community center. We have an organization which I incorporated but now I am battling with the nonprofit status application. My first question is: When I incorporated our organization I didn't know that I need to state in the articles of incorporation our nonprofit status so clearly. I need to now get an amendment to the articles of incorporation. Could someone give me an exact wording for the purpose of the organization so that it meets the requirement for the nonprofit status? My own wording would be: "The sole purpose of the nonprofit corporation is to own or rent and operate a community center where the resident of Tres Piedras, NM, have free access to high speed internet for educational purposes. No financial activities for profit will be conducted." Does this sound ok? I have four more questions regarding the 501C (3) status application, but if someone could quickly help me with just this I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks for your time, ![]() Chi |

You might check the forms section of this site which does allow you to see the language even without cost. See if that helps.
Also your state dept of corporations has models on file you normally are allowed to access one way or another. |
