i live in hong kong and i play a sport called Airsoft, very similar to
paintball basicaly playing combat scenarios using replica guns. hong kong law states that any device which can propel a projectile with a muzzel velocity of two Joules or more is considered a firearm and therefore is illegal without the right paperwork. airsoft guns can be modified to exceed two Joules of pressure but my guns are well within the legal limits. my question is related to suppressing the noise these guns make. replica non funtional silencers/sound suppressors can be bought here but i want to use a silencers that acually suppresses the noise. i've checked hong kong law as much as i can and found only that it is illegal to suppress the sound of a firearm (a firearm as defined by hong kong law), my guns are not firearms and therefore i would have thought that there should be no issue in suppressing the noise. there are real sound suppressors designed specificaly for airsoft guns available from the UK and they ship internationaly but i don't konw if customs will seize it of if for some reason the "authorities" find it in my possesion where do i stand legally? thanks in advance, i've tried to find the information myself on the HK government web site using the "bliss" tool but couldn't find anything, i've also asked some lawyer friends but they're not sure but have speculated that because my guns are not firearms as defined by hong kong law there should be not problem. but i would like to find out as much as i can before buying one. |

I think you should call the local police dept and ask them if you can place the silencer; there may be other code provisions that prohibit as well?
Why do you want to silence it? |
