car title issue

I was dating a guy who blew the head gasket in my car and it was not worth it to fix. He told me to keep the car he was driving, which was his soon to be ex wifes vehicle. He had her sign the title about a month earlier after he found out some other information regarding his car. I paid for the title and plate transfer on the car. A week later I had the police at my door threatening me with felony charges if I did not return the car and I also had her mom and step-dad here saying she never signed the title. The car was supposed to be flagged with the Secretarty of State's office and after I recieved the title in the mail on Monday, I called and found out it was never flagged. So my question is, Can I legally keep this car? If so, are there any reprocussions that could come about to me? I have a vehicle in my name and the valid plates are in where I applied for the title and plates at. They have her plates on it and no insurance. I am responsible for this vehicle, and I am not in possession of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

there was a title loan on the vehicle before i switched the title, but the lein was signed off about 5 months previous to me acquiring the vehicle and title. i have no lein on it because i am not in dyer need of the money to lein the title. and i just recieved it in the mail.

Unless the guy forged his (ex-)wife's signature on the title. In which case, she might be able to claim the car back.
