Allegations of emotional abuse of 5 year old at public preschool

I was contacted Thursday by the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS of Illinois) AFTER they had interviewed my 5 year old daughter of abuse by her Head Start teacher. They (DCFS) wouldn't give me much information, but Head Start did give their version. They said the alleged abuse happened the week before (last Thursday), but I wasn't ever notified by them. I had even continued to send my daughter to school that week. I immediately pulled her out of the school because it doesn't seem, to me or my family, that this was handled correctly. The teacher has resigned. Should Head Start of had to notify me of the abuse? Should DCFS of had to notify me of the interview in advance? I don't know if I have a case or not. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of abuse--do you mean punishment of the child or something otherwise?

It was verbal abuse.
