Confused conspiracy to commit burglary

I recently bought a buy to let property. While the paint was still wet, some people broke in and tried to claim squatters rights. However, the police removed 4 people from the property. Alot of damage and theft, costing £3,240.31 to replace/repair with a further £5,226.67 incurred through loss of earnings and letting income. The police have just told me that they can proceed with a charge of `conspiracy to commit burglary` against 3 of the 4 individuals and a charge of `receiving` against another individual later identified. I have 2 questions. How strong is the charge? How may I recover, and by what route, the costs incurred by me?
