Default dog with genetic illness being threatened by breeder

Spent 6mos interviewing breeders. Spoke in length via email to a breeder.how breeder with good references. Explained what I was looking for with HEALTH being priority and why I was willing to spend more for that. Was told there was no health problems in her line.
Dog does well for 1 1/2 years (although came to me with underbite which could be a health problem but luckily didn't turn into one and kennel cough).

1 1/2 years old and he is diagnosed with bladder stones, had surgery. Lost a lot of inc ome from missed work from being in and out of hospital. Very heartwrenching. She is supportive but admits NOW to there being stone formers in her line of dogs. He is then diagnosed with Liver Shunts (multiple and inoperable). My expenses will continue to escalate. I am not willing to return him as I have bonded with him. She was supportive before this and the testing and offered to pay all medical expenses verbally. When tests come out positive, I could not reach her via phone anymore. She then sends me an email saying she doesn't believe he has them and makes me go to cornell (more $$) offers to pay. I miss another day of work, drive long distance, and go to the liver shunt expert.

Liver shunt expert says he has it and he was born with it.

Breeder offers me $2,000 one week...$1,000 the next via email. I see the $2,000 not the $1,000 and it is not what has come up in medical bills (now about $4,000). She gets angry that I send her the bills. Sends me a letter accusing me of extortion, threatening me that if I tell anyone about where I got my dog and what he has that it is slander and she will sue me, and sayiong that it could be my supplements that caused or worsened his condition. She does hint that she is willing to work through things.

i try to send a letter in response addressing her points. It comes back to be (sent it certified mail). I would like to address her points of what is slander (and help myself understand what I can and can't say to friends without slandering her) and let her know that the liver shunt expert called me personally and confirmed the diagnosis and that my supplements were looked at and liked and doubled by cornell. I realize I probably won't see anymore money bujt I want to address her letter without hurting myself legally and put this to rest.

Is there anyone on here who can help me with this? Should I try to send the letter non-certified mail? Should I send it via email?

She is still breeding the father and siblings and denying that she produced this dog which violates many breeding ethics., this is a seirous genetic disease.

Smile Re: dog with genetic illness being threatened by breeder

always get pedigree documents and sales receipt when purchasing a dog, this gives you the proof you need of whom bred the dog, also insist on a replacement dog from a different line of breeding (the replacment dog does not come from any relatives of the dog being replaced if the condition is hereditary) this must be in writing, if the breeder is worthy of purchasing a dog from he/she will have no problem with this
research a breeds history of genetic diseases then ask your vet about tests for early detection before purchasing and becoming emotionally attached
