My grandfather was prescribed pradaxa because of his heart complications and a couple of months after taking it he started having some complications. He is having some severe headaches, and dizziness and sometimes nose bleeding. The doctor who administered him pradaxa claims it's because my grandfather failed to tell him about his ulcer, but I believe, as his doctor, he should have been aware of this.
I've done some research on the internet and found that a lot of old people suffered from side-effects related to pradaxa intake and that you can seek legal compensation. My question is, in my situation, does my grandfather has a case, and if yes against who should he go, the doctor who administered him pradaxa? |

Pradaxa has caused a lot of massive bleeding, especially in elders who have taken this medication as an alternative to Warfarin(sp?) the blood thinner.
I believe that lawsuits are pending against the pharmaceutical company and searching the net should turn up one or more law firms that are suing the pharmaceutical company. I have recently seen an ad by a law firm inviting victims of Pradaxa to contact them. Sorry for not writing down the name of the firm, but if you google "lawsuit Pradaxa" you should come up with one or more firms suing over this drug's side effects. |

If the doctor says your grandfather didn't tell him about his ulcer than how was his doctor supposed to know? I'm guessing the doctor who prescribed it is a specialist and your grandfather was getting his ulcer treated by a different doctor. Not all patient records are forwarded to every specialist.

that's a common risk with all blood thinners including over the counter aspirin.i have to admit i dont know jack about law, im here to take advice rather than give it, but i would think that having a side effect to the medication would not constitute malpractice unless it wouldnt have been indicated for his condition in the first place. using medications is all about weighing risk vs potential benefits, sometimes you win sometimes you lose the outcome doesnt neccesarily mean the decision made was a good or bad decision.
