Default Prostate cancer operation - surgical item left in body

Good afternoon,
My father recently had an operation for prostate cancer in Cape Town, South Africa. For 3 weeks he has been suffering from severe pain, restricting his movement and causing deep depression. Today he was admitted to his local hospital, where x-rays established that a 'foreign body' looking like a large piece of plastic had been left in his body. He has just been discharged by the local hospital with instructions to return to Cape Town (using his own transport) on Monday when the surgeon will be available. This 4 day wait is not only unacceptable, but the local hospital seem to be disassociating themselves from any responsibility. How can he start legal proceedings in South Africa please ?
Many thanks,
Lynne

It is certainly possible you have a case based on what you say here; you should take a brief description of these events as well as your medical records to a malpractice attorney and see if the attorney thinks you have a claim; often you need to contact several attorneys to find one to take the case; the review of your case and records is usually free.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. I wonder whether the assessment of the case will be free in South Africa ? Definitely worth a try though. Thanks again.
