Hospital Birthing Accident
When I was being born, there was a problem of me getting stuck because I had wide shoulders. The intern decided to pull on my head in order to dislodge me, and in doing so the nerves in my left shoulder were severed. The hospital claimed that the nerves would repair themselves within 6 months, but that wasn't the case. My dad works in the medical field as a computer programmer so he was influenced against suing the hospital. I'm now 21 years old and after years of therapy and exercise, I still only have limited use of my left arm. This condition is called Erb's palsy. I've done a lot of research about it lately and have found out that most cases can be prevented if several warning signs are discovered during the pregnancy. One of these signs is the size of the baby. If the baby is huge then I'm sure one can predict that being stuck is likely. Just to let you know how big I was, when my mother was pregnant with me, everyone thought I was twins! Since I'm an adult now, therefore giving this issue plenty of time to right itself, I'm wondering if there's any way I can sue the hospital for malpractice? My Erb's palsy has taken a massive toll on my self confidence. I'd appreciate any advice!
