Default Settlement In Colorado Breastfeeding Case

A former school teacher has won a confidential cash settlement and concessions from the school where she alleged she was fired for taking breaks to pump breast milk.

Colorado isn’t the only state with laws like this in place. Twenty-four states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have laws related to breastfeeding in the workplace, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. On a national level, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act amended the Fair Labor Standards Act to require employers to provide reasonable break time for an employee to produce breast milk for child nursing needs.
