Geoffrey R. Sant, a special counsel at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, has a fascinating piece in Slate on wealthy Chinese paying body doubles to serve their prison sentences.

The phenomenon isn’t new, but ding zui have returned with capitalism, according to Mr. Sant. (China, apparently, has a rich history of substitute criminals, dating back centuries.) But the trick is getting harder in the digital age, in which looks rarely deceive.
