Gay marriage: Opponents of same-sex marriage asked the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday to hear their case for reinstating California’s Proposition 8, a voter initiative limiting marriage to heterosexuals that was ruled unconstitutional by lower courts. Meanwhile, a Republican-appointed federal judge in Connecticut ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, violates the Constitution’s equal protection clause.
