Default Montana Gov: Fight over Corporate Political Spending Will Continue

In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's summary reversal of the Montana Supreme Court decision on corporate spending in elections, Montana's governor and lieutenant governor say the fight isn't over.

Another possible fallout from the Supreme Court’s decision is a push for further deregulation of campaign finance, AP reported. Advocates of deregulation could be encouraged to push for eliminating limits on direct contributions to candidates or disclosure laws.

“Unless there is a change in the composition of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Citizens United decision is alive and well, and the states are obligated to follow it,” said Robert Kelner, an election law expert at Covington & Burling, AP noted.
