For Killing, Texas Jumps on Pentobarbital Train

When other states slightly less schooled in the art of execution adopt a new method for their killing, it makes ripples.



But when execution leader Texas puts its imprimatur on a new process, the splash creates waves felt throughout the country.

So while other states, namely Oklahoma and Ohio, have used pentobarbital, a sedative long used to euthanize animals, Texas’ use of it on Tuesday sends a new signal: that pentobarbital might supplant thiopental sodium as the drug of choice for executions.
