Default In Insider-Trading Case, the Last Name to Emerge Could be First to Flip

As of Friday, the insider-trading case that revolved around a bevy of prominent law firms chiefly concerned two names: Matthew Kluger, who worked at Cravath, Skadden, Fried Frank and Wilson Sonsini; and trader Garret Bauer.



But another name has overnight leaped into the spotlight: Kenneth Robinson. Robinson, an employee of a mortgage-loan company, allegedly acted as the middleman between Kluger (pictured) and Bauer. He expected to plead guilty to securities fraud and conspiracy charges as early as Monday, according to people familiar with the matter.

“Without Robinson, it would be hard for them to put it together, because everybody was isolated” from one another, according to William J. Davis, an attorney in New York who briefly represented Bauer right after his arrest. Bauer’s current lawyer declined to comment.
