Scott Rothstein’s Favorite Steakhouse (Capital Grille) is Target of Probe

A Florida restaurant where convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein wooed powerful figures and projected his own larger-than-life image is now the target of an investigation tied to the bankruptcy of Rothstein's defunct law firm.

Chapter 11 trustee Herbert Stettin last week filed court papers in bankruptcy court directing a representative of the Capital Grille steakhouse chain to turn over any documents it has related to the law firm’s bank accounts, canceled checks, debt and credit advices, deposit slips and details.

Before his arrest last year on federal criminal charges, various news reports show that Rothstein was a regular at the pricey steakhouse (at the Fort Lauderdale location, a 24-ounce Porterhouse steak will set you back $46). According to the Daily Business Review, he chose the Capital Grille for a 2005 meeting with Florida’s then-attorney general, Charlie Crist, to discuss fundraising for Crist’s (ultimately successful) gubernatorial campaign.
